For over 63 years, Nortox has been a partner of Brazilian farmers in food production. It was founded on April 14, 1954, in Apucarana (PR). The company started as an industry formulator of powder insecticide to combat the coffee berry borer,during a time when coffee plantations were one of the greatest sources of wealth in Brazil, covering a continuous area that stretched from thePioneer North to the ravines of River Paraná.

In the early 60s, Nortox entered into the market of insecticides for cotton crops. In 1966, it became a joint stock company incorporated with national capital. Also in this decade, due to the need to broaden and diversify production, it moved to the city of Arapongas, in Aricanduva district, where it built a modern industrial unit.

The company started in herbicide business in 1972, when the market for this type of product began to grow. Shortly after, it began to synthesize the Trifluralin herbicide and gradually installed units to produce the intermediates required for their manufacture. For this purpose it had to master the technology of amination, chlorination, nitration and fluorination. In the following years, the industry began to produce technical and formulated Alachlor, technical and formulated Dimethoate and technical and formulated Diuron.

The decade of 1980 was marked by great changes in agriculture. No-till farming was made possible when, in 1983, Nortox began to produce, as a pioneer in Brazil, the glyphosate herbicide. Due to this, the price of glyphosate decreased significantly and no-till farming could be adopted all over Brazil.

In the 90s, the business scenario changes: we witness company mergers, the growth of multinationals in the agrochemical segment, by importing the active ingredients, and the closure of production lines in the country.

Nortox elaborates a new strategic plan and trails opposite direction, expanding its product line and synthesizing new molecules in Brazil, focusing on crops for which the company had higher vocation. Results: today Nortox is the biggest national agrochemical company.

In 2010, Nortox entered the sugar cane and pastures business and since 2011 plant nutrition area has been another important segment. The line consists of nutrition and micronutrients bioactivators of proven effectiveness in the field.

Nortox has reached the present days with its eyes focused on the challenges posed by the market, but also on sustainability, social and environmental programs which have been acknowledged and rewarded. This acknowledgement occurred in 2011 when the company received the “Award for Water Quality Improvement”, bestowed by the Association of Agricultural Engineers of Great Rondonopolis (Aeagro) that gathers 120 agronomists in the region. In the same way it also happened with “Olho d’ A´gua” (Water Eye) Project, a partnership between Nortox and Mandaguari Agroindustrial Cooperative (Cocari). The project has already recovered more than 400 sources and springs in northern Paraná and was chosen by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) for the publication of “Sustainable Management in Agriculture”, edition of the year 2014. In the same year, Nortox and Cocari launched the program in Goias.

The Nortox strategy has always been to walk alongside producer, being aware of his reality and the challenges he faces to produce competitively. Therefore, the future of the company is linked to the future of Brazil’s own agribusiness that is why it will continue investing on new products, in an increasingly modern and agile structure in close connection with the farmer, with the most advanced products to overcome the challenges that arise in each region of Brazil.
